Banksy Roots Manuva Yellow Submarine
2001
LP

This single, Yellow Submarine, is not to be confused with its 1960s namesake. Roots Manuva’s trip hop tune was taken from his mix album released the following year in 2002.
The cover features an armoured vehicle, which has been ‘softened’ with a big bow tie on the front. There is also a comical hint that the Easter Bunny is driving the tank, with its pink ears protruding out of the top opening.
Irony is not lost on the fact that ‘Yellow Submarine’ features a grey land-based combat vehicle.
The album, Badmeaningood Volume 2, was released in 2002 and features the exact same cover design as this single. This was an unusual decision by Banksy – to not create a new image for it.
The cover was designed while Banksy collaborated with the Wall of Sound record label.
