Golf Sale
2003
Print on Paper

In this iconic piece of street art (and one of Banksy's earliest works) the artist alludes to a famous image to send a political message.
The photography of "Man Tank" is an iconic photo of a man standing in front of war tanks in the events taking place at Tiananmen Square in China.
This cultural representation became an emblem that was to be emulated and praised by the non-violent movement of the ‘80s.
Banksy here places a rhetorical message and questions the establishment suggesting war tanks to direct themselves to a "golf sale", a very common sign at shops across in England and a sport that is a symbol of the dominant class.
The original 100 screen print pieces were sold in 2005 for $500 American dollars.
