Mother Teresa
2006
Print on Canvas and hand-painted

An outstanding piece from Banksy’s Barely Legal exhibition in Los Angeles (2006), the critique here is manifold. On the one hand, the work pokes fun at religion using a religious figure that has become a pop culture icon of virtue. Meanwhile, the lesson that could have been learned from the life of Mother Teresa has dwindled to advice on cosmetics, in a language that could only have been found in the crudest Google search.
